Biography:
Bard the Bowman is a skilled archer and descendant of Girion, the last lord of Dale, a town destroyed by the dragon Smaug. He first appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, *The Hobbit*, a key figure in the Middle Earth narrative.
Living in Lake-town, Bard is initially presented as a grim and pragmatic figure. However, he proves to be courageous and resourceful. When Smaug attacks Lake-town, it is Bard who manages to shoot the dragon down with the Black Arrow, an heirloom passed down through his family which had knowledge of a weak spot in Smaug's armor.
Following Smaug's death, Bard leads the survivors of Lake-town and plays a significant role in the events leading up to the Battle of Five Armies. He is instrumental in forging alliances and ensuring a fair division of the treasure, ultimately establishing himself as a wise and just leader and rebuilding the city of Dale.
